Giving Young People a Reason to Show Up Again

The Results
The work helped Ice Factor turn real experiences into stronger school and community outcomes.
- Stronger visibility for the foundation's impact
- More young people reconnecting with school through ice hockey
- A clearer story for schools, families, supporters, and community partners

Ice Factor Already Had a Powerful Mission
Ice Factor was built around a clear purpose: to help young people who were at risk of falling through the cracks.
The foundation already had committed educators, leaders, volunteers, and supporters behind it.
It also had a powerful hook.
Ice hockey was different. It was unfamiliar, exciting, physical, team-based, and aspirational.
For students who had switched off from normal school messaging, that mattered.
The program gave them a positive reason to re-engage.

The Challenge Was Motivation
The challenge was not simply making more people aware of Ice Factor.
The challenge was motivating young people who had already stopped showing up.
Standard messages about attendance, behaviour, and responsibility were not enough.
The foundation needed to create an experience that students genuinely wanted to earn access to.
If they skipped school, they did not get to play.
That simple connection made participation meaningful. Ice hockey became a reason to return, reconnect, and keep trying.

The Problem Was Not Exposure
Ice Factor did not need a generic promotion.
The real issue was engagement.
Disengaged young people are rarely moved by polished messaging or distant campaigns. They respond to lived experience, belonging, trust, and something that feels real.
The foundation needed events and storytelling that showed the impact clearly while still protecting the dignity of the young people involved.
The work had to feel human, not performative.

We Built the Story Around Belonging
We supported the foundation by helping develop events, experiences, and storytelling that made the mission tangible.
The goal was to show Ice Factor as an opportunity, not an obligation.
The program was not framed as another school requirement. It was framed as a team, a challenge, and a place where young people could feel seen in a different way.
That gave the foundation a stronger public identity rooted in real outcomes: attendance, confidence, belonging, and community connection.
How We Helped Strengthen the Program
We designed events and narratives that respected the young people involved and clearly communicated the foundation's credibility to partners.

Events That Created a Reason to Participate
We helped develop ice-based events and tournaments that gave young people something to look forward to.
The events created structure, anticipation, and pride.
They also gave students a visible reason to keep attending school and staying connected to the program.

Ice Hockey as the Hook
Ice hockey worked because it was different.
It gave students a new environment, a new team, and a new way to experience discipline, effort, and achievement.
For many young people, the sport became the reason they wanted to show up again.
That made it more powerful than a standard attendance message.

Dignity-Led Storytelling
We supported storytelling that focused on outcomes without exploiting personal hardship.
The message was not built around pity.
It was built around confidence, effort, attendance, belonging, and the positive changes happening through the program.
That helped the foundation communicate its impact with care.

Stronger Community Events
We helped showcase the foundation through events that brought together young people, families, educators, volunteers, and supporters.
These events made the mission visible, safe, and positive.
They showed that Ice Factor was more than a program. It was a community.

Clearer Partner Confidence
The work also helped make the foundation's impact easier for schools, sponsors, and supporters to understand.
When partners can see the connection between participation, attendance, and belonging, the value of the program becomes much clearer.
That helped strengthen trust around the foundation's work.

More Schools, Stronger Attendance, Real Connection
The foundation expanded its impact, adding five extra schools to the program.
Participating students achieved around 90% attendance, based on supplied project notes.
Tournaments brought together more than 200 participants, helping young people feel part of something bigger than themselves.
The result was not just visibility. It was a reconnection.
Young people who had stopped showing up found a reason to return to school, reconnect with others, and belong to a team.
Why the Strategy Worked
The strategy worked because it respected the real problem.
Ice Factor did not try to motivate disengaged young people with more instructions.
It gave them an experience they cared about.
By using ice hockey as a positive incentive, supporting meaningful events, and telling the story with dignity, the foundation created a stronger bridge between school, sport, community, and personal growth.
The impact came from participation first. The storytelling followed the truth of the work.
The Simple Difference
Before the work, Ice Factor had a powerful mission, but the opportunity was to make that mission more visible, more structured, and easier for partners to understand.
After the work, the foundation had stronger events, clearer storytelling, and a more visible connection between ice sports and student re-engagement.
It helped show that when young people are given a reason to belong, they are far more likely to show up.
In One Line
We helped Ice Factor Foundation use ice sport, events, and dignity-led storytelling to re-engage young people with school, community, and themselves.
